Mignone, a 1917 graduate of the Săo Paulo Conservatory in Brazil in 1917, lived in Europe 1920 to 1929. Returning home at the end of that period he began teaching at Săo Paulo. Mignone was a protégé of the writer and musicologist Mario de Andrade (1893-1945) , who is himself considered the founder of Brazilian modernism in the arts. Among Mignone’s later works is one with the lovely title, “Dengues da mulatta desinteressada” (in English, “Coy flirtations of the disinterested mulatta.”) An admirer, Vasco Mariz, has listed this work as one of the high points of Mignone’s production for voice.
