By the 1960s, along with Harvey Sollberger, Wuorinen formed The Group for Contemporary Music. The Group championed the work of Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter, and Stefan Wolpe. Wuorinen has composed more than 260 works for orchestra, chamber music, solo instrumentals and voice. Although some of his compositions are simple, he is known as a complex composer of the late twentieth and early twentieth first centuries.
